Artificial intelligence enfolds Siddhivinayak Temple

Mumbai’s iconic temple Shree Siddhivinayak has enfolded with the tech world. The temple priest chant mantras while the devotees pray and make a wish and after 5 minutes the puja will be completed along with the priest chanting and blessings from the lord. However, there is no distribution of “Prasad” as the puja will be live streamed for people on their smart phone and other devices.

A tiresome of 5 months where the entire world was shut due to COVID-19 pandemic, Siddhivinayak temple has now brought its shrine digitally for all their devotees. With a humongous visitor daily, Shree Siddhivinayak temple is one of the most popular religious places in Mumbai and also the busiest temples in the country.

As huge group of people gather at the temple on every Tuesdays, here to give the saintly a chance to pray during the lockdown, the temple designed an application in time for the celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi festival, through which devotees can seek blessings.

Aadesh Bandekar, the chairman of Shree Siddhivinayak Temple trust too appreciated this initiative of going digital and considering the guidelines of the government, safety of the devotees, going live for the devotees was much of higher choice. “People facing a lot difficulties in health problems and financially too, want to visit the temple but we cannot permit people keeping their safety in mind. Senior citizens, people with health issues and those cannot travel to the temples even after it reopens, can get an online darshan”.

“The trust plans to permit only a limited people to avoid from crowding even if the Maharashtra government allows to reopen religious place from September 1st. Considering the future plans regarding the use of technology the trust is mapping the busy spots in the temple and devising ways and regulating the flow of people to avoid the crowd. There’s a plan to deploy artificial intelligence systems in the temple. Anand Rao, a trustee, says the automated AI-based systems will permit entry into the temple only after scanning an authenticated booking, doing a thermal temperature check and mask detection. “The AI system will ensure that the number of people on the premises is always within accepted limits.”
